WASHINGTON - A football game became a movement to raise awareness in Southeast D.C. on Friday night.
A group of high school football coaches went barefoot, hoping to inspire others to donate shoes.
A charity group called Samaritan's Feet holds shoe drives across the U.S. The shoes go to the needy all over the world.
The group's work is carried out in Third World counties, and in the inner cities of the U.S.
But group members said they are only successful if people know who they are and what they do.
The coaching staff at Ballou High School went shoeless on a chilly night in an effort to raise awareness about a need close to home. In March, 1,000 children in D.C. received shoe donations from Samaritan's Feet.
Ballou won Friday night's game, but fans said the real winners were on the shoeless men on the sidelines.
